About Us

James Marshall

Marshalls of Saintfield are on the fourth generation. The present owner, John Marshall, is the great-grandson of the founder of the business James Marshall. The business started in 1875, selling everything from bolts of fabric to seeds and crockery. James died in 1939 by which time his youngest son David was well established as the next generation running the family business. In the 1960s David's son Charlie came into the shop.

After more that 50 years he is pleased to take a back seat and hand over to his son, John.

There have been many changes over the years, each new owner had their own ideas, and the business has benefited and moved on with each generation. This is especially evident with the new refurbishments recently completed.

The style of business has changed radically since 1875 but the ethos hasn't. We strive to offer excellent service, excellent quality and a variety that isn't found in the high street stores.
